War of the Breach

The Gods have always had the ability to manifest in the Prime Material Plane in a limited form, but outside of Torog none have been able to bring the entirety of their power to bear. This all changed when a seemingly innocuous summoning ritual went terribly wrong. Instead of opening a small portal to the abyss, the ritual ripped a huge gash in the barrier between this world and the Far Realm. While this problem was dealt with and the rift was sealed, two deities exploited the weakness in the barrier to transport themselves to the Prime Material Plane. Vecna and Tiamat were then presented with the opportunity to take control of the most important point of the multiverse. They could have taken that opportunity easily, but they were unable to stand the idea of sharing power. Fighting broke out and Sarlona soon became a decimated war zone. A group of adventurers from Fallcrest, the first city lost in the war, insinuated themselves into each deities’ army: Burly Strong-in-the-Arm eventually led Vecna’s army and Phil Lastname grew to become the most powerful general in Tiamat’s army. Mephisto Al-Ghul became a close adviser to both, and by exploiting each God’s hubris he maneuvered each to attack the other’s stronghold simultaneously. Due to their divine connection with the outer planes, Vecna and Tiamat would usually discorporate when close to death. They had severed that connection when they manifested their whole being on this plane, however, and they where each totally obliterated.
